| Irish-American industrialist Henry Ford (1863-1947) - Ireland's greatest industrial hero. In 1919, the year that the tractors began rolling off the assembly lines, at the Henry Ford & Son plant in Cork City, the war of independence against British rule began. Protestants in Henry's father's native West Cork, were sometimes targeted because of suspicions about their Irishness. The son of a West Cork Protestant has a special place in the history of Cork. |
